Your Guide to Beautiful Nails — Without the Damage
Embellished press-on nails are one of our favorite ways to express yourself — bold rhinestones, 3D charms, and intricate nail art, ready to wear in minutes. With just a little preparation and care, you can wear them comfortably and remove them gently, keeping your natural nails healthy and strong.
Before you start, make sure you've found your perfect fit using our Press-On Nail Size Guide.
Step 1: Prepare Your Natural Nails
Great results start with clean, prepped nails. Take a few minutes before applying:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and dry them completely — moisture is the enemy of a strong hold.
- Push back your cuticles gently using a cuticle pusher. Do not cut them.
- Lightly buff the surface of each nail with a gentle nail file. This creates a better surface for adhesion — just a light pass is all you need.
- Wipe with a lint-free pad and rubbing alcohol (or nail prep solution) to remove any oils or residue. Let them dry fully before moving on.
- Apply a thin base coat and let it dry completely. A base coat adds an extra layer between the adhesive and your natural nail, helping protect it and extend the life of your press-ons.
Step 2: Apply Your Press-On Nails
Once your nails are prepped and your base coat is dry, you're ready to apply:
- Select each nail size before you begin — lay them out in order from pinky to thumb so you're not fumbling mid-application.
- Apply a thin, even layer of nail glue (or the included adhesive tabs) to your natural nail, not the press-on. For embellished styles, a small additional dot of glue on the underside of the press-on press helps secure heavier embellishments.
- Press the nail on starting from the cuticle edge and rolling forward toward the tip. Hold firmly for 20–30 seconds.
- Repeat for all nails, working one at a time.
- Allow a few minutes of drying time before handling anything — especially water.

Step 3: Caring for Your Nails During Wear
A few simple habits will help your press-ons last and keep your natural nails comfortable:
- Avoid prolonged water exposure. Wearing gloves when washing dishes is one of the best things you can do. Extended soaking weakens the adhesive and can lift the nail — which increases the risk of snagging on embellishments.
- Be gentle with heavy embellishments. 3D charms and large rhinestones are beautiful but can catch on fabric or hair. Use the pads of your fingers for tasks like typing rather than your nail tips.
- Don't use your nails as tools. Opening packages, prying open lids, or peeling stickers puts stress on the bond and can cause lifting or breakage.
- If a nail begins to lift at the edge, do not force it off. Apply a small amount of nail glue under the lifted area, press firmly, and hold for 20–30 seconds.
Step 4: Safe Removal — The Warm Water Method
Safe removal is the most important step for protecting your natural nails. Never force, pry, or pull press-ons off — this is the most common cause of nail damage.
- Soak your nails in warm (not hot) water for 10–15 minutes. You can add a small amount of gentle soap or cuticle oil to help soften the adhesive further.
- Gently wiggle the press-on from side to side, starting at the cuticle edge. If it doesn't release easily, soak for a few more minutes.
- Slide the nail off slowly — it should come away with little resistance once the adhesive has softened.
- If any adhesive residue remains, soak again or use a cuticle oil to gently dissolve it. Do not scrape aggressively.
- Once all nails are removed, wash your hands, apply cuticle oil, and let your natural nails breathe before your next application.
Note: Acetone-based removers are effective at dissolving glue but can be drying. If you use one, follow up with cuticle oil or a nourishing hand cream.
Step 5: Storing Your Press-Ons for Reuse
With proper care, many of our sets can be worn more than once:
- Remove any adhesive residue gently from the inside of the nail using a lint-free pad or warm water soak.
- Store in the original packaging or a small container to protect the embellishments from dust and impact.
- Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat, which can affect the finish and cause charms or rhinestones to loosen over time.
- Avoid stacking them face-down on textured surfaces — 3D embellishments are beautiful but delicate.
When to Check In With a Professional
Press-on nails are a safe, temporary option for most people — but it's always good to know when to pause:
- If you notice any redness, swelling, or irritation around your nail bed, remove the press-on and allow your nails to rest.
- If you have any pre-existing nail conditions, sensitivities to adhesives, or broken skin around your nails, consult a licensed nail technician or dermatologist before use.
- If a natural nail is damaged during wear or removal, give it time to heal before your next application.
We always recommend listening to your nails — healthy natural nails make the best canvas for press-ons!
